A Travellerspoint blog

My first journey to goa; dates back 5 years .Those days i was in college and used to work part-time for different
event management
company as a hostess(and they actually employed me ...),used to get paid pretty good as a part time employee and used to
work in
all the posh nightclubs and hotels and big well know companies here in mumbai(I was a freelancer). And after some months
with different event companies , and getting to know different people and building connection in this industry ,i get
an offer to go and work in goa for 5 days for an event (and boy was i jumping with delight and wanted to hug the person
who offered me this ), i was being pretty diplomatic and asked about the amount being paid(and i did not care at all how
much it
was),and how many people and whether it's safe for us to go there .... had lot's of girly question's .Anyways things worked
out and so i headed to goa in march of 2001 . First time out of mumbai without my family and just with few people
whom i knew only through events,i was in goa without any expectations becuase i had not known anyone of my
friends or family members who has ever been there , and i was not so much of a traveller in those days.So there i was in goa
20 years old and was in goa a place where people party , smile, sun bathe ,walk on the (real sandy )beaches, swim.I was in calangute ,
and in march it was not that crowded with that many people ,and i did not have much time to explore that place, but the
local people i met in that span became good friends and were the reason for me to head back there. It's a differnt story that
i never till now got paid for that event but i got a chance to explore goa .And after this event there was no looking back
i had to head to goa once in 6 months , it's like goa calls you . And somehow for me the calling is never lost it always keeps
in touch. I met people who wanted to just smoke up and enjoy , who wanted to sleep around in goa to enjoy ,people who wanted
to just attend the flee market and enjoy the bargain , people who just meet other backpackers and travel around india,
people who were on a world tour and it was their first time in goa, people(foreigners)who were more indian than me (in looks,
dressing, even their house was decorated with god pictures i never knew existed).Goa -arambol to vagator to old goa to palolem,
you have to be there to actually feel it. No one can justify goa in words. This year i did not go to goa even once , as my friend
placed a bet that i cannot stay without being in goa , in a year i have to be in goa either alone or may be with some unknown
goan group ... i tried to pull myself down and said i will prove you wrong pooja and will not go to goa and prove that
i am not addicted to goa .So thank god 2006 is over ,I MISS YOU GOA really and i think i am going to be there very soon ...
